Your tractor can be used on the road, but first it needs to meet specific criteria before "Conditional Registration" can be issued.

 

The following table shows the requirements for tractor use on the road.

Exemption:
Second-hand tractors manufactured before 21 October 1994 are exempt from the equipment requirements, whether in a drought-declared area or not.

Additional vehicle requirement:
All lighting must be fitted as near as possible to the position specified in Schedule 2 of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007.

Driver Licence type required: Class C

Mandatory conditions (unless exempted above):

  • Daylight/floodlit worksite use only.

  • Flashing amber beacon required and used when vehicle moving.

  • Use for farm purposes; OR

  • Restricted to designated areas/routes.

  • Overmass permit (route specific)

  • Oversize permit (general), or;

  • Oversize permit (route specific)

Additional condition for vehicles with hydraulic steering

  • Steering failure warning device, warning label and maximum speed advisory sign required.
