A Power Take-Off (PTO) is a
system found on most tractors that allows
the engine’s power to be transferred to an
attached implement or machine. It typically
consists of a splined (grooved) shaft
located at the rear of the tractor. When an
implement - such as a mower, tiller, baler, or
post-hole digger - is connected to the PTO, it
can be powered directly by the tractor’s
engine. This eliminates the need for a
separate motor on the implement and makes it
much easier to run a wide range of equipment
using just the tractor. PTO's are a key feature in modern
farming, enabling efficient and versatile
operation of many essential tools. It’s
important to follow all safety guidelines
when using a PTO, as the rotating shaft can
be dangerous if not handled properly. |
